ABOUT ADVENT Advent comes from the Latin word 'Advenio' meaning 'I come'. It's a time when Christians look forward to Jesus appearing as a baby at Christmas - tiny and vulnerable. But Advent isn't only about the time when Jesus was born, long ago in history. It's about now, looking forward to the time when, Christians believe, Jesus will return as Christ, the Saviour. This is thought of as a time of awe - a mixture of fear because Jesus will judge the world, but also of hope and victory. So many songs and pictures related to advent show Jesus as a powerful adult with angels flying at his side. Jesus is seen at the end of time, majestic and triumphant. Quite a contrast to the powerless baby!
