Conference October 2009
A national conference on the future development of RE
RE Community Conference postponement – 6th August 2009
After much consideration of the likely implications of swine flu during the autumn especially in relation to schools, with regret we have decided that it would be sensible to postpone the RE Community Conference due to be held on 17 and 18 October, until 2010.
Clearly no-one knows for certain what the position will be in mid October but all the indicators we considered pointed to the likelihood of a high conference drop-out rate resulting in it not fulfilling its purposes and yet still costing the full amount of around £100,000 thus ruling out any ‘second go’. By postponing now we will be able to reschedule to a more opportune time in 2010.
I’m very sorry that we have had to take this decision and apologise if it has caused any disruption to your plans. I can assure you it was not taken lightly. We do believe that a conference in 2010 will be very successful whereas keeping with October 2009 ran too strong a risk of failure. I attach a copy of the briefing paper (PDF) we used to inform our decision.
As soon as we have secured a suitable date in 2010 I will be in touch again with the offer of a transferred place.
Yours faithfully
John Gay
