My mother’s maiden name was Mabel, Ethel Keveren: she lived at ‘Bankside’, Hollis Road, Hatherley, Nr. Cheltenham, Glos. and joined St. Gabriel’s in September 1929 for two years, finally qualifying as a teacher of infants and small children.

On the 3rd of December 1931 she received a letter from
the Board of Education, Whitehall, London S.W.1 informing her that she was
recognised as a certified teacher. On the 9th of February 1932 she received
a letter from the Willesden Education Committee appointing her to St. John’s
Church of England school at Kilburn, N.W.6 as a member of their staff at a
salary of £180.0.0. a year subject to a deduction of 10% as from the
1st of October 1931.
My mother married in 1932 but continued working at St. John’s for a further two and a half years and then returned to Cheltenham. During her time at college she was a founder member of the college’s swimming and badminton teams also that she won the badminton singles championship.
